Presidential Pontifications -  C.J., aka. Chris Jones.

Well, Summer seems to have arrived, bring lovely humidity, warm temperatures, and a whole mess of commercially-produced summer ales, summer ale being a code word for boring and still ten bucks or more a sixer; sheesh.  Brooklyn Summer Ale is one of the not-so-boring ones, a relatively refreshing seasonal, malty with a subdued hop bite, and for you pool people, available in 12 packs of cans at Total Wine.

If you’ve been reading your email, you’ll recall we need a Competition Coordinator very soon as Mr. Messier is off to the Pacific rim, where he will introduce the indigenous people to hops.  It isn’t that complicated a job to complete because we only have three competitions left, and I believe one is this month; that’ll leave you with two to coordinate, a piece of cake.  Let’s ply ourselves with beer on Wednesday, and roust a new coordinator from our midst.

The HRBTS Summer Picnic date is 20 August 2011, at Erin and Phil’s pool side estate in the Mt. Trashmore section of Virginia Beach.  Beer, food, the J.L. Lyon Project, probably Mike Connell on bass, more beer and more food; put that in your Droid or iphone and plan on attending.

Will Walker’s hop shoots are thriving next to our front porch; with any luck, we’ll be picking cones this fall; many thanks to Wilbur for donating hop plants to our raffle a few meetings ago. Speaking of raffles, I have a handful of t-shirts to bring on Wednesday, so bring a handful of dollars for tickets and you might just win one.

See you in a few days unless I get lost on Wednesday’s drive, or kidnapped by Space Aliens.

C.J., HRBTS President

Meeting Location -   Diane Catanzaro

Our next meeting is Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 7:00 PM, at the abode of Terri and Mike Connell in Hampton; weather permitting, it’ll be outdoors, there’ll be some grillin’ an beer sippin’ and it’ll be fun.

The HRB&TS will provide burgers for the grill, but a pre-prepared/no fuss side dish or nosh is heartily welcomed...or just bring some homebrew or commercial craft beer to share. And pop an "extry" in the bag for Mike and Terri as a token of appreciation for the hard work they put into having their little acre of paradise ready for the HRB&TS! See you on Wednesday.

The month prior to each of the HRB Cup events, we will conduct a commercial beer tasting as was done last month but in the style of that next event.  So look ahead and come on out and join us learn about the styles, hone our judging skills and share in a club event.  The last  event took place on Wednesday, May 18th .
