Presidential Musings on Malt  - C.J., aka. Chris Jones.

Another month of beers gone by, another month ahead.  In early July, I was at The Birch for kolsch “keep the glass” day.  I had a kolsch and a glass of water, side-by-side.  Although very similar, the kolsch was mildly drier, at around eight bucks, and the water had a crisper clean taste, at around … free.  No mo’ kolsch for moi!

I witnessed the end of the “Ghent Bar Tour” last night – apparently a lot of bars to visit, and a lot of beer to be had, from 16000 – 2100.  I heard Cee Lo Green’s hit single sung everywhere, sometimes with great enthusiasm.  It was sung as a declarative, sung as a question, sung as both an adjective and an adverb.  I had no idea that Mr. Green had so many fans and had influenced so many people.  Ah, to be filled to the brim with cheap beer again!

Our next meeting is going to rock – a pool in August, sweet!  Bring homebrew, and you can also bring commercial varieties that you enjoy.  Make sure you bring a “thank you” beer for our host.

Our summer picnic is just three weeks away – an entire day of beer, music, food, music, and more beer.

I can’t believe summer’s almost over.  Pretty soon we’ll be back to moaning about the quarterback-challenged Redskins.

See you in a few days.

Meeting Location -   Diane Catanzaro

With weather like this what could be better than spending Wednesday evening sipping homebrews and craft beer with your fellow HRB&TSers?? How about combining this with standing in cool pool water up to your neck, or a walk by the lake? Add in a burger and three, count 'em three condiments, and did I mention cold beer....ahhhh.....  Where you ask will this garden of earthly delights prevail?

Our August meeting will be at the Chesapeake home of Kelly Warren. While most club members have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Kelly, her mom Patty Lyon says Kelly is happy to have us meet, swim, grill, sip suds, and frolic at her Chesapeake estate. Well, to tell the truth the frolicking was my idea but I don't think it will be a problem.

Bring or wear your swimsuit or frolic-wear and a towel. Or just beer.  A nice homebrew or craft beer to thank Kelly for her hospitality would be awesome too.

The club will provide burgers for grilling; a no-fuss side dish is always welcome.  We'll start at 7 pm .... hope to see you there!

Competition Coordinator Corner – JP Messier

Thanks for everyone’s efforts and entries.  We are off to a great run on our new joint competition and look forward to the coming events.  Our next event is on September 21st with the celebrity beer being American IPA’s.  A superior categorical beer, somewhat complex to brew, and enjoyed by most all of our home brewers and tasters out there.  So bust out your brewing equipment and brew up your award winning entry.
